Art For the Centred Self
"There is geometry in the humming of the strings, there is music in the spacing of the spheres" Pythagoras
Geometry
The blueprint of your journey begins here. From beginners to the experienced, you can expect a holistic and reflective course drawing primary shapes, developing complex patterns in time. The practice of geometry consolidates and centres one's understanding of spatial design. It is also a meditative creative space. Lectures accompany each course to give an historic and esoteric understanding of numbers and proportions within Islamic geometry.
Ornamental Designs
Practical design and painting courses to help you understand the 'grammar of ornament' across the expanse of Islamic lands. From the Silk Road, Africa, Asia and beyond we bring you patterns that tell a story of the people, their lands, their traditions. Each course provides an opportunity to complete a masterpiece made by you. Floral motifs, design elements & painting techniques are covered here. Lectures accompany each course to give an historic, ethnocentric and indigenous understanding of pattern design.

SEE GALLERY OF PAST CLASSES"Tasleema ignited my love of Islamic art and design and turned my interest into a passion. She is a wonderful teacher who is filled with philosophical and historical knowledge, as well as technical skill, in many forms of traditional art. As well as the wonderful explorations into drawing, painting and tile making, there was also a fantastic sense of humour and relaxed atmosphere that makes whatever you are working on not only productive but also a completely enjoyable journey. Working with Tasleema has led to a discovery of one of the great joys of my life and her courses are richly rewarding." Kate Henry, teacher and graphic designer
